Titans Safety Kevin Byard Named TransPerfect Music City Bowl’s
Youth Football Ambassador
Program Provides Financial Support, Mouthguards to Local Youth Football Leagues
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The TransPerfect Music City Bowl has partnered with Tennessee Titans All-Pro safety Kevin Byard to serve as the official ambassador of the Bowl’s Youth Football Program, bowl representatives announced Monday.
Byard will virtually visit local teams and promote youth football at leagues across the Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama area through a program that’s assisted over 20 leagues since its inception in 2003.
“We’re grateful to have Kevin serve as our Youth Football Program ambassador,” Scott Ramsey, President/CEO of the TransPerfect Music City Bowl said. “Kevin’s tremendous impact on and off the field has been felt throughout the area for years. During this unique time, we look forward to working together to stress the importance of youth sports in our community.”
Before becoming one of the NFL’s top defensive players, Byard first made a name for himself down the road in Murfreesboro at Middle Tennessee State University. He twice earned All-Conference USA First Team honors and his 19 career interceptions are the most in Blue Raider history.
Byard was picked by the Titans in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft and has quickly established himself as a superstar. He co-led the league in interceptions in 2017 with eight, earning him All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl invite. To date, he’s amassed 17 interceptions, three sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery in just four years as a pro.
Off the gridiron, Byard has made a name for himself through his charitable works especially though his Byard Family Legacy Fund, which provides individuals in our community with hope for a better tomorrow. He was recently named the Titans’ Walter Payton Man of the Year, recognizing his volunteer and charitable works and making him one of 32 finalists for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which will be presented during Super Bowl week.
Byard has also been a recipient of the NFL’s Community MVP award after hosting back-to-school events to hundreds of local families, distributing more than 300 distance learning kits.
Throughout the year, local youth leagues will receive thousands of dollars in donations to help buy/repair equipment, uniforms, maintain facilities, pay for game officials and implement new league programs. In addition to monetary donations, the leagues also receive an official bowl helmet sticker, a free ticket for each coach and player of the leagues’ championship-winning teams and a mouthguard provided by longtime supporter Delta Dental of Tennessee.
“We’re proud to partner again with The TransPerfect Music City Bowl to ensure that young football players have a key piece of equipment—their mouthguard,” Phil Wenk, DDS President and CEO of Delta Dental of Tennessee, said. “Over the past 12 years, together we’ve distributed more than 150,000 mouthguards to young athletes across the state.
“Kevin Byard will make a great addition to the Youth Football Program as their new ambassador— he has been a Tennessee resident since his football days at MTSU, and now with the Tennessee Titans he is often seen out in the community doing disaster relief work and hosting youth events. His success on the field draws attention that he uses for the betterment of the community—a great example for the young people of Tennessee.”
