SEC sweeps top honors in both stroke play and match play
Kingston Springs, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2013) – The SEC claimed top spots across the board in the inaugural DICK’S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup held September 19-22 at The Golf Club of Tennessee and hosted by the Nashville Sports Council and Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.
The multi-day collegiate event brought ten teams from the ACC and SEC to The Golf Club of Tennessee for a 54-hole team stroke play event, followed by an 18-hole match play conference finale, pitting the teams in each conference against each other to play for “Top Conference” honors.
Representing the Atlantic Coast Conference was Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Virginia and Wake Forest. Georgia, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt represented the Southeastern Conference in the inaugural event.
After two rounds of play Friday, Texas A&M was on top of both the team and individual leaderboards. Sophomore Ben Crancer led the Aggies at 11-under par, including a course-record-tying 63 in the second round. Crancer continued his hot play in the final round Saturday, posting a 5-under par to bring his 54-hole total to a 16-under 197 – good enough to win the individual title by seven strokes.
